City Study for Kiel, Germany
To the unique terrain of the city and harbor shaped by the fjord, I added the city’s main road network and the North Sea Baltic Canal (one of the three major canals in the world, completed in 1895 with a length of 98km), which deeply impressed me during my visits. The shape, which looked like a mollusk with tentacles, became reminiscent of dragons and sailing ships as it became three-dimensional. The work is part of the collection of the Stadtgalerie Kiel.
フィヨルド独特の地勢を感じた市街地や港の形に、主だった道路網、現場視察を経て印象深かった北海バルト海運河（世界三大運河のひとつ。1895年完成、長さ98km）の形を加えた。触手を持った軟体動物のようだった形が、三次元にしていく過程で、龍や帆船を想起させる姿になった。
